The Carr/Kammerer relationship was never consummated but the two men remained inseparable, locked in their dynamic of pursuer and pursued. Kammerer was clearly besotted with Carr, a beautiful, intelligent boy with a penchant for outlandish, often reckless pranks, like tossing trays of food over at restaurants or – a favorite – breaking beer bottles and eating the shards.
